Children
Just lying in the grass, thinking by the pond, clowning around in costume, searching under rocks and climbing trees, chores and drinking fountains, blowing bubbles and hanging around with the gang, tackling spaghetti, trying a trail bike, crashing the snow sled or just reading quietly under the table with puss. Kalahari black-maned Lion, Panthera leo
It was an incredible experience to observe the mythical black-maned Kalahari lion patrol his domain over a three day period at Deception Valley in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in Botswana. He was an enormous animal estimated closer to 300 kg than the normal 250kg for an adult male lion in his prime.

Tall Ships & Square Riggers
There is something about a square rigger. It conjures up thoughts of adventure and discovery in far off places. A sense of intrigue as thoughts race to times of old and the journey to newly discovered lands and continents. Here are some images from my book Tall Ships The Sixteen Square Riggers of Australia and New Zealand, and a few as yet unpublished. My next exhibition is being planned for Newcastle Maritime Museum. Western Australian Wildflowers
These images illustrate the beauty and diversity of the flowering plants endemic to the south-west part of Western Australia. The region has a challenging climate and impoverished soils. These conditions have led to the evolution of a large diversity of plant life. The plant community and its pollinators have been evolving together for millions of years without the interruptions caused by successive ice-ages in the Northern Hemisphere.

Teenagers
The life of the teenager is one of extremes. One minute we're on a high, the next it's a bummer. It's great to be with the gang but so is being on your own to soak in the week's experiences. Fun, frolics, fashions, food, friends, family, future...and did I mention fones...sorry, phones! Drugs, sex and rock'n'roll are there to tempt us too, but they don't match up to a agme of cricket on the beach.
White-handed Gibbon, Hylobates lar
The white-handed gibbon, Hylobates lar, is an endangered ape that is found in South-east Asia. These photographs were taken in Thailand in 2001 at the Gibbon Rehabiltation Project, Phuket. The animals were either rescued from bars or handed in by owners who could no longer care for them.

Garden Creatures
A collection of images of small creatures that can be found in any common garden. There are three animals in this lightbox, the Garden Skink (Lampropholis delicata), the Cabbage Moth Larvae (Plutella xylostella) and the Common Paper Wasp (Polistes humilis). As well as being one of the world's major shipping ports Port Phillip Bay is a summer play-ground for the people of Melbourne and the communities surrounding the Bay. Covering 1,950 Square Kilometres the Bay has more than three million people living on its shoreline. Twenty-four metres deep at its deepest point more than half of Port Phillip Bay is less than eight metres deep.

Lions at Duba Plains, Okavango Delta, Botswana
The famous lions of Duba Plains are well known for their buffalo-hunting prowess often seen during daylight hours. I didn't actually witness a hunt but on two occasions saw the buffalo chase the lions in pre-emptive strikes. On the second occasion the large male was chased up a tree by a band of very aggressive buffalo bulls! The highlight, however, occurred on my first afternoon on safari watching two litters of cousins come together in play for perhaps the first time.
