Panoramic Photography
How wide can you go with panoramic photography? It is also known as the wide format photography, it is a fun and challenging form of photography and definitely a sure way to take the entire view home with you. The only problem is that professional panoramic cameras are out of the reach of most people's budget. Luckily with the advance in software anyone with a camera and a computer can create their own stunning panoramic views.
An easy way to create panoramic views is to use a technique called stitched panoramas. This is a set of images with matching exposures and overlapping fields of view that are seamlessly joined together in software applications that are specifically designed for this purpose. For this you at least need a tripod head that can rotate. It is very important that your tripod need to be level. You can put your camera in portrait mode which gives you more room to maneuver later in your stitching software. If you have your exposure correct, you can then proceed to take your series of images. You have to be quick to avoid movement of objects like clouds, the sun and trees. If it is a windy day, you best wait for a better day to avoid frustration.
Have a look on your camera to confirm that the images follow each other closely otherwise they will not blend together properly later on. Download all your photos and start with the stitching process.
As with everything in life practice makes you perfect. Once you are hooked on panoramas you should seriously look at buying a professional panoramic mount. This will help to eliminate parallax lens distortion problems and your frames will stitch together perfectly. Each panorama you shoot will keep improving and you will quickly see any mistakes you might have made.
