As of March 2008 we've had over 15,000 photo buyers register to use our services and we're seeing new registrations coming through faster now than ever before. For all the cheaper options there are still plenty of buyers who will pay fair prices for good images. |
|
|
We have over 400 photographers from 63 countries working in every conceivable field. Between us we have over 150,000 images online and an estimated 8 million more on file. We are currently adding 1000 new images every week. |
|
|
Our 'little' library is living proof that quality and professionalism can stand up to the bargain-basement distributors. We've shown that the independent photographer can compete and prosper if they play the game on their own terms and work smart. |
Well for starters -- Serious Commercial Exposure!
A lot of people fall into the trap of thinking all they need is a website and somehow sales will just start happening.
Unfortunately, setting up a website is the easy part. The real challenge is getting photo buyers to visit. It takes serious time & effort and some fairly specialised know-how.
With OzImages you'll be putting your images into an established system with a proven track record and an extensive client base. A system that photo buyers already use, a system that photo buyers like to use!
When you plug your photography into OzImages you know it's going to be seen by the right people to generate the results you want right from day one.
Your Contribution ...
You select your very best stock images
You prepare low-resolution digital previews
You upload these to our stock library
You repeat this process to build a viable volume.
You can turbo charge your exposure as you go by using our Themed Lightboxes, Front Page Galleries, Niche Content Pages, Client News Items, Tearsheet Gallery. These are all designed to work in different ways to raise your profile both on the site and right across the internet.
OzImages Responsibilities ...
We maintain a cutting edge stock web-based photo library
We market that through print, web and direct mail advertising
We facilitate direct contact between photo buyer and photographer
We provide first class support for both buyers and photographers
We understand that no one chooses to be a photographer so they can sit at a computer all day ... so we do as much of that work for you as we can. We are look after the technical aspects and the marketing chores so that you are free to do what you do best ... make great photography.
When the Photo Buyers want your photos ...
We are servicing a diverse range of photo buyers, each with varying needs and expectations, so accordingly we offer a range of options when they decide they want to use a photo.
Most will use the Request A Quote form to submit usage and contact details.
Some will simply phone or email you for an immediate response.
Others will use our Price Calculator and submit a License Request for your approval.
Anyone needing a photographer with your skills in your area will contact you directly.
We are constantly fine tuning these processes to make them as simple and intuitive as possible so you can close the sale quickly & easily and get back to producing great photography.
If you choose to use our Price Calculator, license fees are determined by the Client before they even contact you. You just approve it and arrange payment and delivery.
If you prefer to handle each enquiry yourself we offer a number of price calculators and other resources to assist with the process.
We have archives of sample business forms, model and property releases and other information to assist with the sales process. There's also an extensive knowledgebase library, 24/7 helpdesk and a lively Members Discussion Forum. You are in control but you are never on your own.
No matter your experience or your involvement, we've developed this system so you can plug into it and hit the ground running

Already Got A Website? Maintain that as a personal showcase while you build a commercial catalogue on OzImages and direct photo buyer traffic between the two. Then you can have a successful web presence and still get time for photography!
However you choose to operate, it is your business and we believe you should remain in control. You keep control of your originals, you have the final say on pricing and you keep all proceeds from all sales.
And here we have probably the most significant difference with OzImages.
OzImages takes no commission from your sales.
When you license an image, you deal directly with the Client, the Client pays you and you keep the proceeds. We do not handle your sales, we don't handle your money and we certainly don't put our hand out for a cut.
We set this up as photographers who were fed up with other stock libraries doing less and taking more.
I can tell you straight out; when you make more sales, our overheads don't suddenly increase, our day to day expenses don't change and the workload doesn't suddenly pick up.
So why should you pay us any more?
So tell me, is it all sounding a bit too good to be true?
I sure hope so!
As I said at the start, we're looking to go into business with you, so I'd be concerned if you weren't a little skeptical and I'd be surprised if you didn't want some third-party references!
So for starters, here's some feedback from our photographers ...
I just want to let you know yet again that I consider OzImages the best run internet-based photo-library I know. I have looked at a lot of them and I belong to another but as far how the site runs, search-engines, speed etc OzImages beats it hands down!
David Hancock -- AustraliaI've been a member here a month now and had four requests. Each one has responded well to a professional, friendly and definitive approach to managing the sale process.
Dave Underwood -- AustraliaI have been meaning to thank you for the excellent stock agency and website you have created and constantly improved. I am going on two years as a member (after observing for one year) and have been constantly pleased with the layout, functionality, and professionalism of OzImages.
Roger Soule -- UKThanks!!!! I have been with OzImages a month now and I am very impressed with everything about the site as well as the support I have received ....
Dave Pattinson -- CanadaI made my first sale about 3 weeks after I joined, which was a bit of a surprise since I have still only loaded 39 images. The shot that prompted the initial enquiry was an over from a shoot I did for a magazine in the UK about five years ago. The client didn't end up using that shot, but commissioned me to shoot a new one plus two others........Thanks!
Steven Pam -- AustraliaI just want take the opportunity to give my compliments to you for the great site, well structured, fast and also the support and information are great. So thanks!
Pauline Mollema -- ItalyThanks for the suggestion on the Galleries Matt. I set up three last month and already they've had more hits than my own website gets in a year!
Dale Worthington -- USAI believe that OzImages is up there on top with the best of what stock photography has to offer! Everyone that places photos on the site is very unique and careful to photograph their art with utmost care! You want to find a great photograph? Start with OzImages!
LaDonna Brezik -- USAOzImages has to be one of the best deals on the web for stock photographers! I recommend OzImages without hesitation, and see the potential for a long, bright future for this vibrant and growing agency. Look out Corbis and Getty!!
Colin Radford -- Australia... All up, OzImages is turning out to be a fantastic resource for effective promotion and sales coordination, without being bled dry by thirsty stock agencies. It's one of the best investments I've ever made and I really appreciate your work Matt - thanks.
Stuart Hutchison -- USAWant more? You can do a photographer search to find someone who does similar work as you or lives in a similar location and has got a well established presence here. Ask how it's working for them and what they think of OzImages.
I'm quite confident that most will tell you exactly the same thing. OzImages works well and they're proud to be a part of it!
You see, we realized right from the start that the best thing we could ever do for our photographers was to give them great value and superb service ... and then to look after our photo-buyers even better!
We bend over backwards to give our Clients all the convenience of the big agencies served up with good old-fashion personal service!
They deal directly with the photographers, so they get that one-on-one personal touch that so many people crave these days. Especially creative people! Happy Clients buy more photos and our Photographers make more sales.
Have a look at some of the Photo Buyer feedback ...
Thanks. We have purchased an image. The service has been wonderful. The response was overwhelming.... In gratitude.
-- Noel, Organization withheldWhat a wonderful network, thanks for putting me in touch....Will be very useful for my next book too where there will be more images required thanks.
-- Lynn, Organization withheldI am so glad to know you are out there looking out for the best interest of photographers and the buyers.
-- Kristine, Suissa MillerThe response has been really good. I think I have had submissions of just about every pic I was seeking.
-- Eliza, Barrie PublishingOnce again thank you, I have had a huge response which is great.
-- Caroline, Dandenong PrintingSuper digging! Thank you!
-- Alexander, Nors GraphicaYour professionalism and business manner makes me wish others with online services could do the same. Keep up the good work
-- Jeff, Organization withheldJust a quick to thank you .... The reply was excellent, and I'm happy to say that I was able to give several photographers some business.
-- Mark, Sea to Sky, CanadaWhat a lot of big stock houses seem to have forgotten is that most photo buyers are in their jobs because they have a real interest in photography.
Most of those we deal with really value their interactions with photographers and many even started out as photographers.
So a lot of the automated whizz-bang sales processes the big sites use just distance the creatives from the photographers and alienate them.
I believe that is why our Client list just keeps on growing.
These photo buyers must know there are other places where they could buy photos cheaper & faster.
Look in any trade magazine and you'll see dozens of full page ads from the microsites, all fighting amongst themselves to see who can give their photos away the cheapest!
And yet we get dozens of new buyers coming to try us out every week ... and they keep coming back.
So I'll say it again ... this industry is built in talent and skill, and there will always be buyers willing to pay fair prices for good photography.
So even if you choose not to get involved with OzImages today, please take one thing away with you ...
You don't need to give your work away for peanuts to survive!
We've developed a system that recognizes the needs and preferences of the types of buyers we want to deal with. We look after them as no one else seems to be prepared to, and in turn are they are looking after our Photographers.
It's really nothing more than common-sense marketing, but it's evolved into a classic win-win situation for everyone.
So are you starting to get a feel for what we're about here?
I know told you we were different, but on it's own that doesn't mean a lot. The important question you need to be asking yourself is whether those differences could be useful for you and your business?
Have a look over some of our features and see if you could make use of just some of these ...
|
|
Online Photographer's Portfolio ... Share your very best work with multiple Clients at once, without ever having to let your precious originals out of your sight. You get professional Portfolio page which you can customize and update as you like, and share with Photo Buyers as easily as sending an email invitation. |
|
|
Searchable Image Catalogue ... As a Member you are allocated space for up to 7500 of your images. These are fully indexed by our state of the art search engine, giving Photo Buyers everywhere quick and easy access to your images. We promote the library as a whole and you can supplement this if you wish with your own promotional efforts. Our search engine is set up to recognize when a visitor is looking at one of your personal pages, and in those situations will offer a individual search, that only looks through your images. |
|
|
Automatic Stock Photo Pricing ... When a Photo Buyer wants to use your image they can get a price real-time using our Stock Price Calculator. This returns an appropriate price based on the Clients' intended usage and your preferences. If the price is right, they submit a License Request and you deliver the image and collect payment. |
|
|
Quote Request Option ... If you prefer more control over your sales, you can have interested Photo Buyers by-pass the Price Calculator and their details will be sent to you direct. You prepare a suitable quote for them and deal directly with the Client to secure the deal. |
|
|
Multi-Function Shopping Cart ... As our Clients are often licensing images from multiple Photographers our Shopping Cart is set up to let them request both License Requests and Quote Requests, from several different photographers all at the same time. Easy for the Client means more leads and sales for you. |
|
|
General Photo Requests ... Sometimes a buyer is in a hurry, or needs lots of images, or knows a request is going to be hard to fill, ..... or simply can't be bothered searching themselves. In these cases they are encouraged to submit a Photo Request. These are broadcast to all members. Those photographers with suitable images respond; either by sending low res previews directly to the buyer, or by loading suitable images to a Photo Request Lightbox. The Client then makes their selection and contacts the respective photographers to arrange usage, payment and delivery. |
|
|
Freelance Photographer Search .... Sometimes a client needs a photographer in a certain area, or with a specific specialty. They can search our photographer database by name, location, region, specialty or subject. From there they can view your Photographer Profile page, your Online Portfolio, your Complete Collection and your Personal Website. When they want to contact you, they will contact you direct using a convenient web form, (we don't publish your email address!) or one of your phone contacts. |
That is the backbone of our operations and many photographers will get involved, submit their images and leave it at that. With a good volume of suitable images they can leave it to run 'hands-free' and just deal with the sales leads as they come through.
Then there are others who are much more pro-active and really work the system to make things happen. They invest some time to make use of the many 'extras' and really reap the rewards.
|
|
Themed Lightboxes ... Group your work into themed sets as you load, add short descriptive introductions and publish them. We then announce them through our RSS newsfeeds, from where they are usually picked up by the major search engines in a matter of days. When that happens, people searching the internet for images that are in your lightbox, will land on the OzImages site, directly on your page. Delivering highly targeted prospective buyers right to your doorstep! |
|
|
Shared Lightboxes ... Using the same Lightbox arrangement, you can set up specific lightboxes for specific Clients. Research a photo buyer, put together a Lightbox of images that they can use and then use the Share Lightbox function to invite them to check it out. Some of our Photographers are sending out a 5 or more Lightbox Invites every week to carefully selected/researched Clients with fantastic results! It is a great way to keep in touch with your existing Clients and to prospect for new buyers. |
|
|
Client News Items ... These contain your story ideas, news of your travels, what you've been shooting, what you're planning to cover in coming months and so on. This is like sending a query letter to thousands of receptive editors every month. Some libraries charge for their newsletter entries, with OzImages it's all part of the service! |
|
|
Front Page Galleries ... These allow you to add a brief commentary to selected sets of your photos. This makes a great platform for those special sets of images you know someone is going to be interested in. Got a photo essay you haven't been able to place? A great idea for a coffee table book you want some feedback on? A special interest you'd like to share? Submit them as a Gallery Exhibit and we'll show it on our home page where you are guaranteed a substantial audience. |
|
|
Personal Website ... This is a mini-website we publish for you that ties together each of your personal pages with a fully customized home page, and a specially designed, search engine friendly 'entry page'. Your Personal Website page provides easy access to your Online Portfolio, Personal Search Engine, Photographer Profile, Gallery Exhibits, Themed Lightboxes, Client News items and more. This is ideal if you want to send your personal Clients to view your work. They can search your images first and if they can't find what they want, they have the full OzImages database at their fingertips. So even if you can't fill the sales, they still go away happy. A client who goes away happy is a client who will come back! So even if you miss the initial sale ... which you would have missed any way ... you will get another shot at them next time! |
|
|
Niche Content Pages ... These are similar to lightboxes but are designed to secure high ranking search engine listings for specific search phrases relevant to your particular fields. You assemble a series of images and some text based on a search phrase that's particularly relevant to your work. We then convert that to a search-engine-optimized web page and get it listed. Within two weeks of launching these were began seeing top 3 results for many of the pages the major search engines! |
|
|
Tearsheet Gallery ... Post examples of your previously published work. This gets a lot of Client interest, especially when they are in 'browse' mode! |
|
|
Member's Choice ... Every member has the option to rate any images in the library. This works two ways ... it allows Members to flag any sub-standard images for Admin review, which is an important part of our quality control strategy. It also lets Members nominate particularly good images. We then use this selection for the random image you may have noticed on the front page. We also offer the Clients access to the complete list of Top Rated Images .. the Members Choice Selection. This is an impressive showcase and it's no surprise that it's extremely popular. |
We also have a large selection of tools and features available behind the scenes to help our photographers get the best possible value from their membership.
|
|
Members Discussion Forum ... This is an email based discussion group for our Member Photographers. The talent and experience gathered here is incredible and the community spirit and willingness to assist is remarkable. This is great if you are looking for advice on equipment or processes, legal issues, pricing & contracts, copyright issues, scanning, digital work and more. Whether you've been in the game for years or you're just starting out, this is sure to be a great asset. In fact, many people have actually told us that our Photographers Discussion group alone is more than worth the annual subscription fee! The group has been archived and can now be searched to find past advice and information on many, many photography-related topics. This is a resource that will continue to grow and improve even further as time goes on. |

For security reasons it only allows remote access the smaller thumbnails and visitors are directed to view larger previews in the secure OzImages framework. |
|
|
NEW - What's Hot! ... this is a monthly list of specific images that are generating the most interest, right across the library. It take into account all Client activities and actions, and assigns a special ranking. The result is a list that gives some particularly useful insights into what buyers are looking for at any given time. Check it regularly because you will be surprised! |
OzImages has evolved as an innovator and a leader but to be totally honest, we never really had a choice!
As each new photographer joined us and each new photo buyer registered, we'd get more feedback and more new ideas. Now I don't know about you, but if someone tells me there might be a better way to do something, I can't help myself ... I'm going to check it out.
So as a result of this constant input, our package of services just keeps on growing and the way we do things just keeps on getting better.
So when you get involved here you aren't just purchasing marketing services for your business. You are joining a group of like minded professionals in a cooperative effort to grow both your business and the organization itself.
This is the major difference for a lot of people ... while the photo library is the core structure of our operation, what we are offering you is a professional package of marketing tools & services for your photography business.
While most people expect a photo library to work off a commission on sales, we think it works out much better for our photographers if we charge a fair fee for our services and leave your sales alone.
That way you know exactly what your expenses are for the year, and you know that every time you make a sale, there won't be an agent standing there with their hand out, wanting to take half!
Now some people insist on comparing us to a traditional stock photo library. As a result they can't get past the idea that a traditional stock library wouldn't ask them to pay up front.
Some even try to tell us that they don't pay anything at all with a traditional library. Somehow their commissions don't count as an expense? Well here's one example that might put it in perspective for you ...
Our best ever sale was five figures, US dollars.
The photographer who made the sale had already covered his subscription fee with a previous sale, so this one was all profit. He kept the lot.
If we'd been working on a standard 50% commission arrangement, the photographer would have given up half. That would have been the equivalent of over 15 year's worth of subscription payments!
I can assure you he was glad we do things differently!
Does that make sense? We set out to do things differently so we aren't structured to handle your sales, we don't want to handle your money and we couldn't work on commission if we wanted to ...
The fact of the matter is we deliberately set this up as we did because we were sick of paying more and more commissions to libraries that were doing less and less!
One common misconception is that a commission based library has a greater incentive to perform.
Well I think the opposite is true!
With a traditional library working on a commission, they need to make sales to make money. True enough.
The catch is, there is nothing in that structure to dictate who should make those sales.
In fact what you normally find is that 20% of the photographers will make 80% of the sales.
In a lot of libraries the ratios are even worse. You'll often find a couple of favorites (or owners) will make most of the sales and the remaining photographers just fill in the gaps from time to time.
With OzImages it's different. Our income relies on satisfied members renewing each year.
We want ALL our photographers to renew so ideally we'd have ALL the photographers making equal sales.
If only 20% of our members made sales we'd be in serious trouble. Sure we could just keep chasing new photographers, but we would never keep up.
Besides, we much prefer to keep the photographers we've got. It's easier, costs less and it's the right thing to do.
So ask yourself, who really has the most incentive to look after their photographers?
OzImages who needs every single one of their photographers,
or a Corbis or Getty who really doesn't seem to care any more?So How Much Is All This Going To Cost?
Well, the good news is, not as much as you might think. Maybe the question we should be asking though is; what's it really worth?
A basic no-frills portfolio website will set you back about $30 a month, $360 a year.
Most of the Photo Request services on the web are now well over US$500 a year.
The Client News service, say $75 a month for one item, that's US$900 a year.
There's a site that offers multiple 'Lightboxes' for free, if you buy another product from them for US$395 a year
So already we're talking $2000+ a year, just for the basics. That's without any of the extras or any of the intangibles.
And that's without any buyers ever seeing your images.
We are averaging over 1 million thumbnail views per month. That's tens of thousands of full size photo views. It's impossible to put a value on that sort of exposure.
The good news for you is that because we work together to provide these services for a lot of photographers, we're able to share the cost and make it extremely affordable. And we believe it's important that we keep this package accessible to as many photographers as possible.
But affordable doesn't mean cheap.
While we're not a big budget operation, we are living proof that good ideas, great people and real commitment can compete with the big players. We run with a small but efficient staff, we don't require expensive office space and whenever possible we contract work out to experts.
As a result we operate on a flat-rate annual subscription that should be within the reach of virtually any working photographer. The current one year subscription is just AU$360. We also have a very popular two year option, a couple of installment plans and a monthly payment option.
If you're serious about fast-tracking your online photo business and exposing yourself to a world of new markets on the Internet I think you'll agree this is exceptional value.
On the other hand, if that price makes you flinch, that's good. It really is, because I don't want anyone getting involved who isn't ready. Which probably means you should take a pass for now.
The more experienced photographers will be quick to realise that just one or two average sales will more than cover the cost. In fact, we normally find, the more experienced the photographer, the more impatient they are to get started!
Those photographers who are new to the business side of things should recognize that the support and training network here is going to be priceless.
Regardless of where you find yourself on that scale, I think you're about to find it's even better because I'm not going to ask you to pay for anything just yet.
That's right ... you pay absolutely nothing now!
You see I've written this rather lengthy letter with just one purpose in mind ... to give you enough information so you can decide if OzImages MIGHT be a good match for your business.
You don't need to be certain. You don't need to commit, and you don't need to pay anything.
I just want to ask if this is something that you'd like to look into?
If you've read this far then I'm going take a guess that you're saying 'yes' or 'maybe' right about now?
If that's the case, then I want you to take the next step right now. It's quick, it's simple, it places you under no obligation and it won't cost a cent!
The next step is simply to Register and Submit a Membership Application.
The one-step registration is virtually instant and the Membership Application is quick and straight forward as well. We ask for a bit of background information, your experience, a website link if you have one, and a few sample images.
We will look over that and give you some feedback. If we think you are right for us and we are right for you we'll show you how you can get started straight away.
If it turns out we think you're not quite ready for this, we'll let you know and we'll try to offer some helpful feedback and direction.
Either way your have absolutely nothing to lose by finding out. In fact, we've put together a special selection of bonuses to make it really worth your while.
